On Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th November 2018, the Adopt A River Programme Implementation Unit successfully staged their 2nd Annual River Conference, “Connecting the dots…From Ridge to Reef.”

The team at Adopt A River partnered with the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Caribbean Network for Integrated Rural Development (CNIRD), for this year’s event.

200 persons were in attendance over the two days and had the opportunity to participate in panel discussions including, “The role of media in changing a culture of pollution,” “Tackling Marine Litter,” The business of single use packaging” and “Keeping T&T Clean.”

The moderated sessions featured panelists including Mr. Paul Richards – CEO Radio Vision Limited, Dr. Marissa Gowrie – Ministry of Planning and Development, Mr. Sanjay Jagrup – Caribbean Bottlers (T&T) Ltd., Dr. Judith Gobin – University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus among other distinguished guests. Also in attendance was the Honourable Shamfa Cudjoe, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs.

The Adopt A River Team released the trailer for what promises to be an exciting documentary, “Meet Me by the River,” and continued their innovation with the Citizens Science Water Quality App. The App has game changing potential as it has moved from a tool to replace a data collection form and now features an offline map, storage capacity for sampling points and location identification capability. In the coming year, the team is confident that new features will include News and Notifications and a launch in the Google App Store.
