Clean up excercises

Clean-up exercises and Recycling

In conducting clean-up exercises, the programme is aware of the poor solid waste disposal practiced by many in Trinidad. After completing over 15 clean-up exercises across the country in 2016, the programme identified plastics and cans (recyclables) as major pollutants:

In response, the programme did two things:

  • Starting working with communities to implement their own recycling programme,
  • Starting hosting clean-up exercises in conjunction with important stakeholders. These clean-up exercises include:
    • Joseph – New Fire
    • San Raphael
    • Mausica – Lions Club
    • Arima
  • Starting working with schools to implement recycling.

Community Groups and Schools which currently recycle with us include:

The Cashew Gardens Community Group was a great success because:

  • It was the first recycling project completed by the Adopt A River Programme
  • It was the first community-based recycling programme in the country
  • It was the first recycling programme run by children and youths.
