In commemoration of World Water Day, 22nd March 2018, the Adopt A River Programme Implementation Unit engaged members of the media, in a Workshop geared towards mobilizing the media industry to promote good stewardship of the environment. Representatives from the Trinidad and Tobago Radio Network, Gayelle the Channel and the CCN group were in attendance and proved very receptive to the information shared.
The workshop, which ran from 9am to 2pm, got underway with an opening address by Snr. Manager Water Resources, Mr. Keith Meade, followed by presentation from Sara-Jade Govia, Water Sector Specialist, Ministry of Public Utilities; Adopter A River Programme Outreach Officer Darion Fraser, Runako Osborne of the Green Fund and Dr. Azad Mohammed, University of the West Indies.
Participants were literally shocked into the reality of the negative impact of human activity on our water supply as well as the direct relationship between rivers and the water received in our homes. All participants have committed to continuing the dialogue and advancing the conversation of good stewardship of our water resource.
