IWRM working in Trinidad and Tobago: A benefits analysis of the Adopt A River Programme

Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) is a process which promotes the coordinated development and management of water, land and related. WASA began the Adopt A River Programme in order to implement the short-term initiatives which would realise IWRM in local watersheds. The project has been ongoing for the past three years. This paper reviews the successes of the programme in light of WASA’s IWRM Plan and also in terms of social, economic and environmental benefits to the watersheds in which work has been completed.

Wha yuh know bout water? A basic survey of water perception in Trinidad and Tobago

As part of the Adopt A River Project Development Process, a knowledge based survey was conducted in nine (9) community meetings and public education events across the country. This survey aimed at collecting information on the basic understanding of nationals of water and rivers in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Adopt A River Programme as a vehicle for progressing Integrated Water Resources Management in Trinidad and Tobago

Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) is the process which promotes the coordinated development and management of water, land and related resources, in order to maximize the resultant economic and social welfare in an equitable manner without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems. The Adopt A River Programme began in 2012 as an IWRM initiative aimed at coordinating corporate entities, community groups and other stakeholders to develop projects in order to improve the status of rivers in Trinidad and Tobago.

Cashew Gardens Community Council Recycling Programme

The Cashew Gardens Community Council partnered with the Social Justice Foundation to participate in a water quality testing exercise.  The result of this test was submitted to the Water and Sewerage Authority.  It was discovered that the quality of the water in the Caparo River left a lot to be desired.

Adopt A River Conference 2017

The Implementation Unit of the Adopt A River Programme hosted its first River Conference under the theme, “Connecting the dots…The Green Exchange.” The conference directly targeted registered Community Adopters, stakeholders from Corporate Trinidad and State Agencies.
