Competition Guidelines

  1. Competition is open to Environmental Clubs at all secondary schools. Where no such club exists, individuals can submit.
  2. Only one submission per school would be considered.
  3. In schools where there is no Environmental Club, more than one submission will be entertained; however, the judges will decide which is the best piece to be placed for consideration in the national pool.
  4. Spoken word pieces can be presented/performed by ANY member of the school’s population selected by the Environmental Club. Again, where there is no club, the individual submitting must be prepared to perform the piece if selected.
  5. The theme for the competition is #NoNewWater.
  6. Submissions must creatively capture human practices within their watersheds with a special focus on the impact of man’s behaviour on rivers.
  7. Submissions must include elements of the water cycle. Other topics include pollution, deforestation, conservation and presevation.
  8. Submissions must first satisfy the requirement of at LEAST three stanzas with at LEAST five lines per stanza.
  9. Submissions qualifying for the final must be presented at a live showcase.
  10. Content can be sourced on the Adopt A River Website and Facebook page.
  11. Additional content can be sourced from the Adopt A River YouTube channel.
  12. Research, Research, Research!
  13. Pieces are to be submitted during the period March 01st to May 18th No late submissions will be considered.
  14. Five (5) judges will be empanelled to select finalists.
  15. Finalists will be announced on Tuesday 22nd May 2018.
  16. All clubs must document by way of minutes, the entire process leading up to the creation of the piece and selection of performer.
  17. Individuals must document by way of a reflective summary, their creative process.
  18. All submissions will be deemed the property of the Adopt A River Programme.
  19. The Adopt A River Programme reserves the right to reproduce any submission or part thereof, by any means electronic or otherwise, free of all encumbrances.
  20. The final showcase will be recorded and rebroadcast, in whole or in part at a future date, free of all encumbrances.
  21. The Judges’ decisions are final!
