Adopt A River field visit with the Ministry of Agriculture to the Guanapo Watershed

On 19th November, Adopt A River had a field visit with Ministry of Agriculture to the Guanapo Watershed. Sites along the Heights of Guanapo Road were identified for the construction of check dams which will help reduce the silt runoff to the river.

Ministry of Agriculture with be leading this project and construction should begin shortly. This project aims to reduce the silt loading at the WASA plant and help the farmers in the area get a better supply of irrigation water.
Special thanks to the Engineering Division of the Ministry of Agriculture for preparing the proposal and securing funding for this exercise. We met with Mr. Rambarran Sant, owner of Hermitage Limestone Quarry who will be partnering with us for this exercise. Special thanks to Mr. Sant as well for supplying the aggregate for this project.
This is a perfect example of an integrated approach to solving a water management issue.
Here’s hoping that all goes well! Wish us luck!
