Do you have an interest or a passion for the environment, our water resources or the quality of your life? Is poetry or spoken word a passion of yours? We at the Adopt A River Programme (AARP) and the water and sewerage authority want to hear about it. RiverSpeak is a spoken word competition open to primary and secondary school students.
Here’s a look at our Winners for our Spoken Word/Poetry Competition – RiverSpeak 4, held on Friday, September 22nd, 2023, in commemoration of World Rivers Day!!!!
The third instalment of the annual RiverSpeak spoken word competition was held virtually for the first time. The competition which usually features live performances was instead completely hosted through video submissions and online voting. The competition was launched as a joint venture between the Adopt A River Programme (AARP) and WASA’s Corporate Communications department.
Following the success of the first edition “River Speak” Spoken Word competition, the decision was made to hold a successive competition. On Friday 7 th June 2019, the Adopt A River Programme in collaboration with the Water and Sewerage Authority Corporate Communications Department hosted “River Speak 2” Secondary Schools Spoken Word Competition, at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) O’Meara Campus, Arima. “River Speak” was conceptualized with the aim of providing a forum for Secondary School students to speak out on the challenges facing our rivers and watersheds, using the medium of spoken word.
The Implementation Unit of the Adopt A River Programme hosted its first spoken word competition under the theme, “Speak out in Defense of Our Rivers”. The competition directly targeted Secondary Schools’ Environmental Clubs or the general school population for those without clubs. There were approximately 30 entries and the top 15 was chosen after judges’ deliberation.
