The Adopt A River Structure

The Adopt A River Structure consists of three groups:

– The AARP Implementation Unit

– The Steering Committee and The Secretariat

– The Adopters

AARP Project Implementation Unit

The AARP Implementation Unit

The Adopt A River Implementation Unit is the executing arm of the programme and is responsible for implementing the work programme, budgeting and preparing project reports. The PIU conducts public education/stakeholder consultations; facilitates partnerships; prepares project proposals; coordinates project implementation; and monitors projects with partners etc.

The Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is the governance body for the programme and is comprised of a group of multi-disciplinary representatives from various sectors including government and non-governmental organisations. The role of the SC is to guide the implementation of the programme which includes reviewing, approving, monitoring and advising on projects under the Adopt A River Programme.

The Secretariat

The Adopt A River Secretariat consists of members of the Water Resources Agency (WRA) who provide technical and administrative support to the Steering Committee.

The Adopters

The Adopters are those communities, organisations and companies who register with the Programme and who facilitate projects for the improvement of watersheds across the country.

It is a grant facility that is available to eligible organizations who wish to engage in environmental activities. We are a Green Fund project.
