Competition Guidelines 2023
- Competition is open to all Primary and Secondary school students in Trinidad and
Tobago.
- Each student or group per school is restricted to a single entry. However, schools can
submit a maximum of 2 entries.
- Theme for the competition is: “People’s Solutions for Plastic Pollution”.
- Submissions must creatively capture human practices within our watersheds with focus
on the impact of pollution on our rivers.
- Submissions must include topics such as pollution, deforestation, conservation and
preservation.
- Submissions must first satisfy the requirement of at LEAST three stanzas with at LEAST
five lines per stanza.
- Submissions qualifying for the final must be presented at a live showcase.
Performance can include costuming, props, backups, background visuals and music.
- Content can be sourced on this website. Additional content can be sourced from our YouTube , Facebook and Instagram pages.
- Research, Research, Research!
- Pieces are to be submitted to the Adopt A River Website in the form below during the period of June 12th to July 21st 2023. No late submissions will be considered.
- No alterations will be allowed after entries are submitted.
- A panel of five (5) judges will shortlist and select finalists.
- Finalists will be announced on August 14th, 2023.
- Finals will occur in-person on September 22nd, at a venue to be announced.
- Entries must be entirely the work of the student/school and not that of any work
published or performed publicly prior to the competition.
- The judging panel will award marks based on the following 5 criteria: Content,
Creativity, Language, Form and Relevance to theme.
- All submissions will be deemed the property of the Adopt A River Programme, who
reserves the right to reproduce any submission or part thereof by any means electronic or otherwise, free of all encumbrances. Full credit will be given to the author(s) for any
reproduced work.
- Family members of employees of the Adopt A River Programme and the Water and
Sewerage Authority are not eligible to enter the competition.
- The Judges’ decisions are final!
Prizes to be won for the Top 3 Winners of each category.
Prizes to be won for the 1st Place schools of each category.

The live finals will be held on Friday, September 22nd, just in time to commemorate World Rivers Day!
