The Adopt A River Programme was pleased to partner with the Ecosystem Approach Ltd team, for their first annual Trinidad and Tobago Mangrove Festival which took place on Saturday 5th August 2023, from 10am to 2pm at the Felicity Community Center. This event commemorated International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem which is celebrated on July 26th annually!
Other partners that participated included the Forestry Division, EMA, SWMCOL, My Beach My Water NGO, and some local businesses. The focus this year was the Caroni Swamp in Felicity, a protected area that’s heavily impacted by human activities. Participants were exposed to the importance of mangroves and their role in protecting our land from the sea, absorb carbon from the atmosphere and provide homes to some rare and colourful species.
Let’s continue to work together to conserve this vulnerable and valuable mangrove ecosystem in Felicity and others throughout our country! Let’s change our relationship with nature from degradation to restoration and save our mangroves and environment!!!
