RIVERBANK STABILIZATION AT THE DIGITY MUD VOLCANO SITE IN BARRACKPORE

In our continued goal of managing and restoring our rivers and watersheds through activities and projects, Team AARP with support from  The Penal/Debe Foundation, the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation, and Vetiver TT, conducted a riverbank stabilization exercise on Monday, November 27th at the Digity Mud Volcano Site in Barrackpore.

Over 100ft of eroding riverbank was covered with approximately 1300 Vetiver plants provided by Vetiver TT. Over the last 2 years this area experienced erosion which threatened the recreational sheds often utilized by members of the public. Through this installation, visitors and residents alike, can now breathe a sigh of relief as the growth over the next few weeks, will ensure safer access to this beautiful site for years to come.

We thank all our volunteers/adopters from the Penal/Debe Foundation, members of the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation including Mr Gowtam Maharaj, Vice Chairman of Council and Alderman, and the team at Vetiver TT for their guidance, hard work, participation and support.
